First impressions

Interior Panorama

Panoramic of the lounge area hopefully gives an idea of space created by the kitchen and lounge slide out

We have had our new RS Elysian just a few weeks now and been away a couple of times so here are the first impressions of the living area.  After all the soul searching and decision making (see layout decisions and RS SpeInterior 2cification here), how close did we get to what we wanted?

The living space is great.  The kitchen and lounge single slide creates a real living space more like a room than the usual motorhome squeeze.   The picture alongside shows the free standing table in place.  We particularly wanted a free standing table so we could bob it outside when we wanted to and it lives in the wardrobe when we are travelling.  So, very happy with the living area we have created.

Because of the size of the van, particularly with the slide out extended, the addition of the Webasto Air Top heater in the living area in addition to the Alde heating has also proved to be a really good decision.  It means we get instant heat in the living area while the Alde system warms up.

The kitchen was another area where we decided to very much part from the norm.  Instead of the standard gas oven and four burner cooker we decided upon just a two burner hob and the Dometic combined Microwave Oven and Grill.  The two burner hob is great and all we need.  It immediately meant much more preparation space in the kitchen area.  The Dometic microwave functions really well and has all the same controls you would expect on a domestic model.  We did try to make some toast with the grill element – that didn’t really work!  Add toaster to the shopping list!

The final kitchen appliance is, of course, the fridge freezer which unfortunately is missing two shelves which we are still awaiting from Dometic.  We found it very sensitive in terms of the door close alarm.  It beeps if the door is not firmly closed but other than that, a good sized fridge big enough for us and with room above for our coffee machine!

Neat cupboard above and the adjacent remotes are for the awning, hydraulic levelling legs and air conditioning unit.

So, living and kitchen area get a big tick all round.  Very pleased with our decision making to date.  Follow on blogs will cover off more on the equipment side, base vehicle and the rest of the interior fittings.

Wow, what a motorhome! That lounge is very impressive with the help of the slideout. I can see why you only specified a two burner hob, we never use more than two on our hob and, as you say, it means you have more preparation space.

Looking forward to reading more about your new motorhome, and looking at the pictures of course.

Thanks – I should get some more pictures up over the weekend. It was my wife who said “look, I never use more than two burners” and it was a good decision.
