Shrewsbury Motorhome Fair – is it just me?

Motorhome Facts Rally

I guess I started talking properly around the age of three.  That means for the last 54 years it is now apparent to me that I have been mispronouncing Shrewsbury. It’s not Shroo as in Shrew but apparently Shrow as in Show,  my self esteem duly demolished at least Shrew now rhymes with show which is apt as that is what I wished to blog about having just returned from a very enjoyable weekend at the Summer Motorhome Fair.  Very relaxing, good fun and a nice bunch of people to boot from the Motorhome Facts Forums.  First time we ever attended one of these and we really enjoyed it.  I’m afraid Freddy Mercury on Friday night kind of murdered the songs (for me anyway) and Annie described it as ‘Glastonbury with matching anoraks’.  But the Shrewsbury Light Orchestra on Saturday night with a Last Night of the Proms concert followed by fireworks were sublime (although they didn’t play The Big Country – which is my absolute favourite).

"BritStops Stand"

Steve from BritStops

Among the exhibitors was Steve from my favourite outfit, BritStops.   Still the best value £25 you can spend for UK overnight camping.  Here’s Steve working hard to attract more members.

The show was quiet generally for the traders although Annie did her best to make sure every trader went home with something from my wallet – I guess the weather kept many people away.  In fact, the rain was pretty kind throughout the weekend and it didn’t rain at all for the SLO evening.  The flags were out on Saturday night and here is just a little taste of the fun had by all.

Amazing what a few beers and a bit of music can achieve!

Finally, thanks to Raptor107 for the tip about the cooking ‘thingy’.  Let me know how your sausages were!

Hey! Call me slow if you wish but I have just noticed that your ‘pride-and-joy’ must be a ‘left hooker’. Could I invite you to post about your descision please? If you have done so already then do ignore this request as I would not wish to put you to further trouble.

Many thanks for your attention o this request.

No big mystery, our first Motorhome, an N and B Flair was a left hooker and we really like travelling in Europe so stuck with it when we changed. More expensive option as it happens. We were thinking when we next change to go to a right hander, but the mirrors are so good on the vehicle I am really not bothered. However, I don’t like driving far without a look out for those occasional nasty junctions you get.

    Hi Chris and Annie,
The cooking gas ring thing worked well and coped with 5 sausages and 3 burgers at the same time. Cleaning it was a doddle so money well spent.
It was great meeting you at Shrewsbury.
    Cheers
    Dave and Chris

Sounds good, sorry we couldn’t stay for tea :). We will give ours an outing soon enough I guess.
