Highwayman Hotel CL Kidlington

Date of Stay June 4th 2012

Looking for somewhere to stay on the way back from Big Church Day Out we searched the Caravan Club site for a CL with adjacent pub and came across the Highwayman Hotel.  It looked very promising and whilst Motorhome Facts listed it as not suitable for large RVs we decided to ignore this and go anyway.  The ‘not suitable’ seems to me to be ignored by people with smaller vehicles who are unsure whether a larger vehicle will fit.  Bit of a steep incline on entry but no real problem getting in even with our small trailer on the back.  £10 per night including electricity.

The photo definitely shows it at its best.  The pub food wasn’t great and the site itself was a bit of a rubbish dump at one end with an old cement mixer and piled up sheeting plus a couple of older stored caravans.  A great shame really because it has a great location next to the canal and we walked quite a way towards Oxford in the evening admiring the many moored up barges in various states of repair from ‘wow’ to ‘how do they live in that?’.  So, doubtful we would return and after much debate, we give it 3 out of 10 despite the location.
