Brit Stops 409

Date of stay: Sunday 26th February

It is the nature of the beast that I can’t tell you exactly where Brit Stops 409 is located.  Those of you who have chosen to join the Brit Stops scheme can look it up easily enough, suffice to say that this little gem is in a really great place.  It’s on the edge of a small town but actually is also right out in the countryside within 50m walk of a well maintained beauty spot with stunning views across Cannock Chase.  Those are the only clues you get!

Room for up to three motorhomes – might be a bit of a squeeze if the car park was busy – our 30 footer snuck in quite nicely.  They have a yellow hatched area in the far corner of the car park where they like motorhomes to park.  The car park does slope quite heavily so you will need chocks.

We ate in the pub.  Evening meal deal is two main courses for £10 which was good value.  They did have the most peculiar spelling of foccacia as a starter which appears on their menu a facachta.  However, it didn’t affect the taste.  I would imagine they do a pretty good Sunday Roast dinner and certainly the pub was extremely busy up until the point we arrived (maybe it was something we said)!  There are two bars, one of which is ‘dog friendly’ so very happy for you to bring your dog in which is unusual.  Because of the direction we were coming from (Bath) and going to (Knaresborough) we did cop the M6 Toll twice at £9.60 a time due to the size of our vehicle plus we had a trailer on the back but overall, we judged it worth it.

We score it 8 out of 10 for sure on the basis of location and you can’t beat the cost i.e. ‘free’.
